Dubai / U.A.E Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@dubaigolfholidays.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Check out the below link which takes you to the UK Government's Official webpage on the United Arab Emirates and Travel Guidance for UK Citizens. We would always advise to follow the guidance stated on this page -

United Arab Emirates travel advice - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Flights from the UK will generally take 7/8 hours, this is always what is termed stand to stand, so not actual flying time. The return journey from Dubai to a UK Airport tends to take 45 minutes longer.

Depending on the clock changes in the UK the U.A.E will either be 3 or 4 Hours ahead of the UK. So generally speaking if you fly at sat 9am outbound after the 8 hour flight and 3/4 hours on the initial 1st day is taken up with travelling.

The current exchange rate as of January 2024 is approximately £1 - 4.7 UAE Dirham

Travelling and golfing in the U.A.E is a lot cheaper than golfers think.

Many of us have been on golfing tours and holidays to European destinations, but after factoring in extra costs for luggage, golf clubs, seat selection on flights, but buggies, range balls, drinks at the actual golf clubs each day the actual price we end up spending on these European golf trips can soon escape from the initial budget.

Dubai now has an abundance of Hotels, many of a 5* standard, but given the amount that have been built competition is extreme to try and secure tourist stays, this is great news for the travelling golfer as they can experience some of the best hotels at reduced prices. Dubai Golf Holidays are also very lucky in that having being based in Dubai for a number of years have lots of contacts to help keep the costs of Green Fee's down, without these links some of the elite courses can be pretty expensive.

So travelling and golfing to Dubai in our opinion compared to other destinations is actually getting slightly cheaper year and year and can really offer superb value for money.

There are a total of 22 Golf Clubs in the UAE.

14 are located within Dubai, 6 within Abu Dhabi and 2 within Ras Al Khaimah.

Winter, from December to February, is very mild or pleasantly warm: the maximum temperatures range from 24 °C to 26 °C (76 °F to 80 °F). Sometimes, especially in January, cool air masses from the north can bring some cool and windy days, during which the temperature can drop to around 10/12 °C (50/54 °F) at night and around 16/18 °C (61/64 °F) during the day.

Summer is very hot and sunny, with daytime temperatures ranging from 38 °C to 42 °C (101 °F to 108 °F) between May and September, and with the wind from the Persian Gulf that brings moist air from the sea, making the heat sweltering. April and October are also hot months, with highs around 33/36 °C (92/96 °F). During the hottest days, the temperature can reach 48/49 °C (118/120 °F) on the coast, and even more in the interior.
Luckily, buildings are air-conditioned.

The simple answer to this is yes, but you will need to be able to play golf to a certain standard and get around the golf course within the set pace of play as well as keeping up with the correct etiquette and  any specific rules.

Please note any of the Dubai golf courses reserve the right to remove you from the golf course should you not be of adequate standard, there will be golf marshals out there watching standards and keep a track on the pace of play.

A lot of golf courses in Dubai are challenging, many have numerous water hazards and large bunkers to contend with.

However golfers can play the courses at numerous lengths due to them all having a wide array of tee boxes to choose from.

Our suggestion is to play the tee box and length of course suitable to your handicap. The starter will usually guide you as to which tee box is best when they find out your current handicap or standard on the 1st tee.

The cost of the golf buggies are factored into the Green Fee rate. You don't have to pay any extra for a golf buggy.

Clubs in Dubai/U.A.E will use golf buggies to help maintain the pace of play, many buggies also have GPS on them to assist in getting yardages and to inform you of your current pace of play etc.

All of the golf clubs in Dubai have fabulous golf practice facilities on site, so golfers can use the ranges, short game areas and putting greens at any stage prior to their rounds.

If you aren't due to play golf on that day you can also pay for range balls or a certain time slot, please speak to the applicable golf reservations team.

Visitors need to be aware that they are travelling to a Muslim country with a different set of values and laws and a different culture.

Whilst Dubai and the U.A.E has certainly relaxed over the last 10 year period tourists need to be aware that like any country doing something they deem illegal could land you in a lot of trouble and potentially behind bars. We would also ask you to consult the UK Government website on travelling to the U.A.E to see what is and what isn't accepted.

Like all places and cities prices vary hugely. However food can be bought very inexpensively, there are always offers at various outlets and restaurants. So do follow a few local websites and ask members of staff at the hotel for any recommendations.

Alcohol is fairly expensive with a pint of beer potentially costing between £6-£10, howeveer with so much competition there are usually happy hours at most pubs/bars. The key is knowing when to go and where.

Brunches really are great value for money as you pay a set price and enjoy unlimited food and alcohol, we can help guide you on the very best brunches depending on your budget.
