The 18 hole Al Ghazal Golf course, which opened in 1997, measures 6711 yards of the white tees, with a par 71 and presents an exciting challenge to the novice and the experienced golfer.
Instead of greens there are browns. These are created by compacting rolled and treated sand and, as the players quickly discover, they give an extremely true putting surface.
The front nine holes (par 35) are based around an archaeological site which was once an old coast line. The back nine (par 36), which have recently been developed, present a great challenge. Be careful of the water on the 11th!
Ben & Dubai Golf Holidays Analysis - If you fancy the experience of playing golf when golfers had nothing but what they term as 'browns ' to putt on then this is a must. Take your golf matt out with you and if you hit the designated fairway you are allowed to rest the ball on the matt, however venture further afield and you must play the ball from the sand dunes as it lies, very tricky indeed. Then try and master the browns when you land on the so called green, they are quite a bit faster than you think, so go careful. Also make sure you sweep up after you have finished on each brown.
A fantastic experience for golfers of all abilities who want to capture that unique experience, also enjoy the help of a local caddy who will carry your bag as your trudge across the sand course.
